The family has a new member. A feral kitten, over several days, wormed its way into The Dotter's heart. A Vet visit has been scheduled to ensure that isn't literal. Young Salem still has trust issues. When introduced to the basement so that Grampa could meet her, she darted under everything there to dart under, which is everything.
